From a non-member, earlier. What experience can you pass to her?

Can you help please. We have only three olive trees, but this year they are laden with fruit. Is it feasible to press these ourselves and if so how do we go about it?
We live in Bucklands Beach in Auckland. I have no idea of the variety of the trees.
Thank you for your time. Lynda . Sunday, 23 February 2003.

It is difficult to say whether it is worth your while pressing your olives, without information on tree age, variety (different varieties have different size fruit, ) and likely number of kgs). Most commercial presses require a minimum number of kgs - say around 100 kgs, although some can do less. But there are smaller presses.

Suggest you contact Barry Wade - he has a press, and may be able to help. 152 Wades Road, RD1, Howick.

It is possible to purchase low volume presses in New Zealand. Try Robert Sweet: 09 376 6322.

Many NZTCA members are olive growers, and you may wish to consider joining (if you are not a member already)! The Auckland branch would be in a good position to advise you further.

Cheers

National President
