- Essentials on Pruning
- While web space permits, an earlier Q&A archive
Not what you expected? - Hmmm -
The ultimate answers to all tree-growing questions are where they always have been - at local field days, where growers share their experience and knowledge of local conditions; and what species and varieties do well there.
This is, after all, why the NZ Tree Crops association was formed. Membership costs are modest; most members are friendly and helpful.
Much knowledge is condensed into our "Green Guide FAQ" (Basic Notes - General Information on 65 NZ Tree Crops) available in Publications. Studying this in conjunction with visiting a local field day can provide the best start for Tree Cropping.
It's not that we haven't tried to provide on-line replies to individual queries - the most recent (Crop Options page) - proved too difficult to provide answers that satisfied everyone's soil type, everyone's climate...
Over time, we may decide to include here some of the most common
queries that can be answered in general terms - such as the most basic pruning and
essential (wind) Shelter systems.
There is a feeling that we could make our Fact Sheets available
on-line soon... [er, that was in 2006]
Meanwhile, many thanks to those who asked questions, and especially to those who volunteered time to suggest answers. And best wishes with your growing endeavours!
