Trip A was to Lake Mahinapua, and Coastal Tree Crops:

 

Friday 6 May 2005

 

We walked along a beautiful coastal lake shore, surrounded by tall and regenerating rimu and hardwood forest - plus a visit to Ben Gaia and Liala Gianstefani's interesting organic coastal tree crop plantings and nursery called "Gaia Trees".


Trip B featured Lake Kaniere, and Permaculture:

We enjoyed an easy 10 minute track in tall original kahikatea forest -

- adjacent to a grand alpine lake.


A visit to Hilke Bruns and Rory McDougall's permaculture property called "UR":

- of shelter trees and crop trees. Look good? The groundcover trial is strawberries...

 

- organic sustainable living -


- and pest control -

  

 - organic also in the enviable greenhouses -


An Artistic Treat!

 

Conference Dinner, Shantytown:

Conference Dinner was at the Miners Hall, Shantytown.


Conference organiser and host Michael Orchard introduced the guest speakers.


 

The 2005 winner of the Dr Don McKenzie award was David Murdoch.

The trophy was presented on his behalf to Bill Ellery by the Association's long-serving patron Hazel Nicholls.

We were able to glimpse some historic Village attractions. Buses returned progressively from 10 pm.
