Ballantyne Place, Poriate, ‘Kendall’, property of David and Ruth
A trip to the dentist by one of our members has resulted in our members being invited to visit ‘Kendall’. The original planting of this property was by legendary plantsman Tony Wilson, and his wide range of very interesting ornamental trees including mature dogwood, beech, karaka, crabapple, Eucalyptus, oak, puriri and magnolia.
Tony Wilson has kindly agreed to join with Chris Ryan in leading discussions about the trees and what is involved in the maintenance of mature trees.
There is also a wetland bordering this property, which Ruth and David, Michael Shepherd & DOC have been working on. Ruth has written an overview of their property, and this paper will be distributed on the day.
This event will proceed wet or fine.
Sturdy footwear is required for hillside tracks and long grass.
The wetland area and surrounds are boggy.
Vehicle parking is at the end of Ballantyne Place on the sides of the road.
