Marlborough Tree Growers Association Autumn Field Day

On Saturday 25th APRIL with Chris & Jan - Brookby Road. Anticipating glorious autumn colours on the 8 hectare lifestyle block.

Starting with a few old poplars this property has been planted with New Zealand natives on the wetter margins of the two streams that bound the property and extensively with amenity deciduous species; oaks being a particular fascination.

Chris had endeavoured to establish trees in a dry area and will talk attendees through his trials and battles with tree establishment, irrigation and the inevitable non performers.

This will be an afternoon field day from 1.30pm with a BYO afternoon tea.

2008 May

Autumn Field Day - Saturday 3rd May 2008

8.30am – meet at Broadbridges yard Renwick. Members willing to take passengers to reduce vehicle numbers would be appreciated and passengers assisting in vehicle running cost.

9.45am-10am – meet Bevan at his property via Tophouse/Golden Downs. Robert will also meet us at Bevan's; running some field trials at this property.

Midday – Travel to Appleton's at Wakefield. Rather nice cafe in Wakefield called The Rhubarb Cafe we could swing by for lunch or BYO.

Anticipate we would be on our way back to Renwick by 2pm.

What:AGM and Farm Visit - Totally Integrated Development

When: Saturday 29 March 2003, 1 pm
Where:The Pyramid, Waihopai Valley
What:Chris and Julie Dawkins have a traditional sheep, cattle and tree farm that suffers from summer dry, so limits the range of trees that survive through to maturity.

Stops along the way will include:
  • Pinus Radiata woodlot due for logging;
  • QE2 Covenant and Significant Natural Area;
  • Alternative species wood lot and shelter belts with significant drought damage;
  • Plus, if time permits, whatever else catches the eye.
At the conclusion of the day, there will be a very brief AGM.

What: Your chance to be part of re-afforesting on the Wither Hills Farm Park
10:00am to mid-afternoon; come and go as you wish.
