"A good crowd assembled at Lynette's place on Ohauiti road. It is amazing what you find tucked away in the countryside."

"Lynette has been planting tree crops for over 20 years, and some of the trees are getting quite large. She remarked in particular how she had planted the walnuts at very wide spacings, and they are touching now."

"We spent some time discussing the heritage apple collection. She had planted them in the supposed order of their ripening, but found that quite a number fruited out of sequence in her climate. There was an amazing range of tree vigour and shape, partly caused by the different rootstocks used. This has resulted in having to prune and manage each variety quite differently. One of Lynette's favourites was the Lady Finger - an unusual looking yellow, V-shaped fruit."

"The afternoon concluded with some good natured bidding at the tree auction. Lynette even found something to add to her already extensive tree crops collection; a mate for her spectacular Japanese raisin tree, which has not been fruiting, being on its own with no pollinator. The star of the show had to go to the little flock of Kaiuga ducks - very handsome birds with shiny black plumage. Thank you Lynette for an enjoyable fielday!"
